Il principale festival di melodic e power metal di Vancouver, nella Columbia Britannica, HYPERSPACE METAL FEST, si prepara alla sua settima edizione dopo un altro anno ricco di esibizioni indimenticabili e ad alta energia.& nbsp;Il festival, che si terrà al The Cobalt il 16 e 17 aprile e al Rickshaw Theatre il 18 aprile, ha svelato la prima ondata di 2026 artisti, tra cui SANCTUARY, OWLBEAR, ATAVISTIA, VOIDCHASER, ARTIFICIAL LANGUAGE, WITCH KILLER, OPHELIA FALLING, LYCANTHRO, THORSGUARD, VALLEY OF DESPAIR, e altri gruppi che saranno annunciati a breve.
“Siamo davvero entusiasti di annunciare finalmente la prima ondata di band che parteciperanno all’Hyperspace Metal Festival VII! I Sanctuary si esibiranno in un’esclusiva canadese con l’esecuzione integrale di Into The Mirror Black! Gli Atavistia saranno gli headliner della prima serata, che sarà incentrata sul death metal melodico. Dopo quest’anno, il festival entrerà in una pausa a tempo indeterminato, quindi se avete sempre desiderato partecipare all’Hyperspace, questa potrebbe essere la vostra ultima occasione. L’headliner di quest’anno, i Sanctuary, renderanno la loro esclusiva apparizione canadese all’HMF davvero speciale, poiché eseguiranno integralmente il loro acclamato album del 1990 “Into The Mirror Black”. La band heavy metal americana Sanctuary è stata fondata a Seattle, Washington, nel 1985, ed è diventata rapidamente una parte fondamentale dell’influente scena heavy metal della città. Il sound della band, incentrato sulla voce acuta e distintiva del compianto Warrel Dane, li ha resi una forza di spicco. Il loro album di debutto, Refuge Denied (1988), è stato prodotto dal frontman dei Megadeth Dave Mustaine, contribuendo a lanciare la band nella scena metal mondiale. I Sanctuary hanno raccolto sostenitori in tutto il mondo, alzando notevolmente la posta in gioco quando hanno pubblicato il capolavoro più cupo e raffinato Into the Mirror Black nel 1990. Mentre lo stile grunge ha portato la carriera commerciale della band a una sfortunata battuta d’arresto, la fine della prima fase della band ha significato l’ascesa dei Nevermore, che hanno pubblicato diversi album acclamati dalla critica tramite la Century Media Records tra il 1995 e il 2010.
Nel 2011 i Sanctuary si sono riformati e hanno celebrato il loro ritorno dal vivo, esibendosi in festival di alto profilo come Wacken, Metalcamp, Bloodstock e 70K Tons Of Metal cruise. Nel 2014 pubblicarono “The Year The Sun Died” e raggiunsero la posizione numero 39 nelle classifiche tedesche. Nel 2017, le registrazioni demo del 1986, restaurate e remixate, furono pubblicate come storico album “Inception”, che raggiunse la posizione numero 53 in Germania. Il 13 dicembre 2017, il cantante Warrel Dane morì tragicamente. La band ha inizialmente intrapreso un tour tributo, reclutando il cantante dei Witherfall Joseph Michael per sostituire il cantante.
La reazione alle performance di Michael è stata molto positiva e la band ha deciso di continuare concentrandosi su nuovo materiale. La band mira a offrire un sound unico che rimanga familiare ai fan più accaniti. L’attuale formazione dei Sanctuary comprende Joseph Michael alla voce, insieme ai membri originali Lenny Rutledge (chitarre) e Dave Budbill (batteria) e George Hernandez al basso. I Sanctuary sono, e saranno sempre, una band con due chitarristi e avranno un secondo chitarrista per tutti i prossimi concerti dal vivo. Forced to cancel their 2025 performance at HMF, Owlbear has its sights set to take the stage at the 2026 edition. Formed in 2020 during a time in which plague stalked the land and time lost all meaning, the core of Owlbear is comprised of North American scene veterans Katheryn Scary (vocals), Jeff Taft (guitars), and Leona Hayward (bass), all of whom hail from different corners of the continent. A rapid exchange of demos led to the creation of their debut album Chaos to the Realm, and the runaway success of that release in 2023 transformed the band from a remote project to a full-fledged outfit, with their debut live performance occurring at the sold-out Legions of Metal festival in Chicago in 2024. Musically,
Owlbear draws influence from classic heavy and speed metal and roots their lyrics in the media its members love, from the famous role-playing game that inspired the band’s namesake to the Final Fantasy franchise. Dynamic vocals, frenetic riffing, and bass that is equal parts pummeling and acrobatic drive the band’s relentless approach, and with the release of their widely praised sophomore album Feather & Claw, Owlbear aims to continue to carve out its niche within the heavy metal community with a savage swipe of a plumed talon.

Atavistia (HMF Alumni) è una band canadese di death metal sinfonico melodico che fonde riff aggressivi, orchestrazioni cinematografiche e atmosfere malinconiche. From Montreal and Stockholm, Voidchaser is a progressive metal band. Nati nella scena metal underground di Ottawa dei primi anni ’80, i Witchkiller sono emersi come uno dei contributi più interessanti del Canada alla diffusione dell’heavy metal dell’epoca. Unendo la potenza e la teatralità dell’heavy metal classico con l’intensità melodica del movimento NWOBHM, la band si è rapidamente conquistata un seguito di fan grazie alla sua maestria musicale e alla drammaticità dei testi. Formatisi nel 1981 dal batterista Steve Batky e dal chitarrista Kurt Phillips, i Witchkiller hanno consolidato il loro posto nella storia del metal con il loro iconico EP Day of the Saxons del 1984, pubblicato dalla Metal Blade Records. Emerging from Vancouver’s rain‑soaked streets, Ophelia Falling (HMF Alumni) delivers symphonic metal at its most powerful, soaring vocals layered over driving power metal, orchestra, and choir. Formed in 2013 by guitarist Mark Anthony Richardson, the band found its voice when powerhouse singer Chelsea Rose joined in 2015, leading to the creation of early fan favourites like “Savage Love” and “Anybody’s Daughter.
” With James Meyer on board, their explosive 2018 debut made them one of Vancouver’s most talked‑about metal acts, quickly landing them on the stage of the Rickshaw Theatre for Hyperspace Metal Festival.Bassist Sylvain Maltais joined in 2018, helping propel the band through a breakout period that included their 2019 EP Savage Love, soundtrack placements in Karen Lam’s The Curse of Willow Song and Kevin Schultz’s Guiltless, and performances at Wacken Battle Canada (BC Finals) and Calgary’s Decimate 2.0 Festival. Drummer Chris Pallot completed the lineup in 2020.
Their debut album, “Destroyed in Delight,” arrived in October 2020, featuring the single “Tangled” and the track “Save Me,” selected for gameplay by Hipsterbait. Songs from the album continue to receive college and internet radio play worldwide. With multiple music videos released and more in production, Ophelia Falling is now writing new material and gearing up for their return to the stage.

Lycanthro (HMF Alumni) è un’enigmatica band power metal proveniente da Ottawa, in Canada. Thorsguard è un epico progetto metal vichingo nato tra i venti gelidi dell’Alberta, in Canada. Fondata all’inizio del 2022 dal polistrumentista e cantante Damien Hicks, noto artisticamente come The Skald, la band è stata creata con un unico obiettivo: far rivivere le antiche saghe attraverso riff fragorosi, melodie travolgenti e racconti temprati dalle battaglie. Secondo quanto riportato pubblicamente, Thorsguard ha sede nella regione di Edmonton/Sherwood Park ed è animata dalla passione per la mitologia norrena, la cultura guerriera e i paesaggi sonori metal cinematografici. Traendo ispirazione da giganti del genere come Amon Amarth, Sabaton, Ensiferum, Equilibrium e Brothers of Metal, i Thorsguard fondono death metal melodico, elementi folk e trame sinfoniche in un sound che risulta al tempo stesso mitico e moderno. I temi dei testi del progetto ruotano attorno alle imprese vichinghe, alle battaglie leggendarie e allo spirito indomito del Nord, il tutto raccontato con il tocco drammatico di uno scaldo errante che narra gesta eroiche alla luce del fuoco.

alley of Despair è una band metal indipendente canadese che fonde elementi di rock moderno, power metal e thrash. Il gruppo, con sede a Edmonton, Alberta, ha pubblicato il suo EP di debutto “Burn At The Stake” il 29 novembre 2024. L’EP ha raggiunto la prima posizione nelle classifiche delle radio universitarie di tutto il Canada e si è aggiudicato un posto nella Earshot National Loud Chart. Valley of Despair ha portato il suo EP in tour nel Canada occidentale nel 2025, con tappe ai festival di Armstrong, nella Columbia Britannica, e Yellowknife, nei Territori del Nord-Ovest. VoD sta preparando il suo primo album completo, con l’intenzione di pubblicare nuova musica nel 2026.
